The interesting thing about this statue is that there are no paintings of this individual so Brother Rotellini used a grandson as a model. It must have been a painting or photo of the grandson since the revolution was in 1844.

This was on the stand by the full body statue of Durate at the university. Sorry about cutting the last i off his name. It was right down against the ground so I couldn't get down to see through the viewfinder what the camera was seeing.

Enriquillo was a Taino Indian who is credited with having met Columbus. The Indians helped Columbus when his ship was damaged on a reef as it entered port. Columbus's men rewarded the Indians with violence and slavery. Enriquillo and others led a revolt but were no match for the weapons and diseases of the white men. The statue is reminiscent of Arnold Friberg's Nephi.

Enriquillo used to have a spear in the hand Bishop Rotellini is holding but it has been taken.

Elder Allred, Sister Otto, and Sister Breillatt are taking pictures of the rest of us.

Brother Rotellini currently makes these pieces which are numbered as Urbana out of a very hard wood like ironwood. He says they sell for approximately $3000 each and it takes him about five weeks to make one.

I keep thinking what a wonderful name Rotellini is for a sculptor. It has ring to it that any number of other names would not have.

Urbana just means urban so the sculptures are a respresentation of sky scrapers, I suppose.
