Sister Santana

Sister Austria Santana is the only Dominican with a full-time temple calling. She lives in the Casa de Huespedes with the rest of us. She joined the church in its early days in the Dominican Republic in 1978. She was looking for some comfort after her husband died. Her daughter also joined and is still active. Sister Santana has been stake Relief Society president a couple of times. Sister Santana is the one who gives us a taste of the true Dominica as we live in kind of a temple bubble. She gave us a family home evening on Dominician fruit, much of which we have heard of. She also took me on a trip on city buses called guaguas. One was very crowded. We went shopping in a Haitian market area. Sister Santana speaks only a few words of English so she is good for our Spanish.
