Vitamins can kill
Studies show vitamins can kill you
A review of vitamin studies published in the latest Journal of the American Medical Association found a significantly increased risk of death in people taking certain vitamins.
Vitamin A increased mortality risk by sixteen per cent, vitamin E by four per cent, and beta carotene seven per cent. Vitamin C didn't show an increased risk, and selenium actually seems to lower the risk of death.
The reciew looked only at well-designed studies from all over the world, totalling 232,606 people. The danger could actually be underrated. Most vitamin studies are funded by vitamin manufacturers, who don’t publish adverse studies. No unpublished studies were included in the review.
So leave the pills on the supermarket shelf. Fresh vegetables, eggs, fish, dairy, olive oil and nuts are tastier, cheaper, and they won't kill you.
